NATURE AND SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENT
The National Security Engineering Division offers continuing students (undergraduate and graduate) and recent graduates within one year the opportunity to engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. Opportunities include technical and/or research support to projects in the areas of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computational engineering, nuclear and chemical engineering, or other related fields.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
AT THE UNDERGRADUATE 705.1 LEVEL (NON-EXEMPT):
- Students will work with engineers, scientists and technical staff members to provide technical and/or research support to projects in the areas of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computational engineering, nuclear and chemical engineering,or other related fields.
- Under close supervision, will participate in research in assigned area.
- Gather and analyze data or information in support of scientific research.
- Attend relevant seminars.
- Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies.
IN ADDITION AT THE GRADUATE 705.2 AND RECENT GRAD 712.0 LEVEL (EXEMPT):
- Under limited direction and supervision will conduct research in assigned area.
- Performs technical assignments of a basic degree of complexity and provide advanced technical support to scientist in scientific research and development projects.

QUALIFICATIONS
AT THE UNDERGRADUATE 705.1 LEVEL (NON-EXEMPT):
- Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering, physics, computer science or a related field.
- Ability to apply basic engineering or scientific principles to solve technical problems.
- Communication skills necessary to communicate research project(s), document work and give a technical talk/presentation.
- Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Experience working with personal computers and familiarity with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
IN ADDITION AT THE GRADUATE 705.2 AND RECENT GRAD 712.0 LEVEL (EXEMPT):
- Must be a continuing college or university student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing a graduate degree or a recent graduate within one year.
- Demonstrated academic achievement in a scientific curriculum.
- Experience applying advanced engineering or scientific principles to solve technical problems.

DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
- GPA of 3.5 or above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Pre-Placement Medical Exam:  A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
